Ucalaly, Caley, comrades, karaoke, and comida

Keeping with the tradition of posts that span multiple days this chronicle starts on March 29th. This morning was the day that we crossed the continental divide. Here's a pic looking down the west side.

And now the evidence of the pass itself.

We the descended into Silver City and saw this super eclectic artist by the name of Monte. He sold his wood sculptures while playing the ucalaly.

After the Bob difficulties we spent a little time with the karaoke king of Silver City. Here's the evidence!

Fast forward until the evening of March 30th. After Jim the awesome cactus guy and museum curator we stopped to get groceries at this store. Someone was a terrible driver as is demonstrated by wrecking a boat into the building!!! Here's both pics.

The entirety of March 31st will be skipped, you can read about the AWESOME night on Caley's post. These pictures are from April 1st. The first one is in front of Dan and April's lovely house. The accommodations were only eclipsed by the fantastic friendships we made in a short time!!!

The departing party from in front of Chope's bar is shown in the photo below. This is the only photo we have with Matt. Thanks so much for seeing us off and being the catalyst for the incredible time we had in Las Cruces!!!!

Here's the group hug after a massage caterpillar line!

This picture is the beginning of birthday week for me. My actual day is April 3rd, however Jess and Caley have decided that such an occasion never warrants just one day!!!

We met Peter a Dutchmen who decided to bike across the US to visit his daughter in California. I suppose flights to Florida are a little cheaper from Holland.

On the morning of April 2nd we discovered that everything is indeed bigger in Texas. This rooster will attest to that. Caley sought it fit to ride it.

This was outside of a hardware store where an angel by the name of Rachel made us a pot of coffee while a train delayed us for over an hour! Here's Rachel.

We had some crazy tailwind which pushed us along at an easy 25 mph. Here's a picture of the sail I fashioned.

Here's the universal sign for awesome tailwind!!!

Here's two pictures of a good deed pose we made after helping two gentleman push a car onto a towing device. Every now and again we have altruistic tendencies ;)

We always knew Caley was a bit dangerous now the rest of the world is warned!

April 2nd marked the day that we completed 1000 miles!!!

We also rode a total of 110 miles on this day! To celebrate Jess and my first century completion we had dinner at Chuy's in Van Horn.

Everyone is likely thinking that this isn't enough food for the three of us. Your right, we had 3 desserts after!
As I sway in the breeze below some bleachers in a hammock I'm signing off. I hope everyone has a great night! We sure will!

  1. Great riding guys. FYI, You are My Sunshine was written by Jimmy Davis, a former Governor of Louisiana. When you head north from Brackettville, spen some time along the Guadalupe River. It is really a special place.
